Privacy policy

This page explains how ZedScore handles information when you visit our site, read polls, and vote in the daily question. By “anonymous” participation we mean you do not need an account and we do not ask for your real name to vote. The site still uses normal technical signals—such as a random id in a cookie and, like any website, network data when your device talks to our servers—so we can run the service fairly and safely. Those are not the same as a public profile, but they can still be personal data in some laws.

Who we are

ZedScore is a public opinion platform focused on Zambia. Through our website you can view past polls, read today's question, and vote once per device session in the daily poll where available.

Information we collect

  • Vote choice — the option you select in the daily poll (for example Yes / No / another label shown on the card).
  • Optional demographics— if you choose to complete them, we may collect province, gender, and age range (or “Prefer not to say”) exactly as shown in the vote flow. These fields are optional and only used to understand how different groups responded in aggregate.
  • Voter session id (cookie or similar) — a random identifier stored on your device and sent with vote requests so we can enforce one vote per poll for that browser session. It is not your name; it is tied to your device until you clear cookies or we rotate it.
  • Technical and network data — when you load pages or submit a vote, our hosting and infrastructure may log or process data such as IP address, browser type, device type, request time, and coarse location derived from IP (for example country or city) for security, abuse prevention, performance, and aggregated traffic statistics. This is separate from the random voter id: the IP reflects your network connection; the cookie id reflects the browser session we use for fair counting.

Accounts and identity

You do not need to create an account to vote on the public site, and we do not attach your vote to a public profile or display name. For fair tallies we still need a stable way to recognise “this browser already voted on this poll”: we use a purpose-bound identifier (typically a cookie), not who you are in real life. Server logs and security tools may also see your IP address when you connect—that is standard internet plumbing and is used for hosting, security, and abuse signals, not as a replacement for the voter cookie. Admin tools may label vote rows as “User 1”, “User 2”, etc.; those labels are internal placeholders, not your legal name.

How we use information

We use the data above to run the service: display live and historical results, improve question quality, fix bugs, prevent abuse, and—where you provided demographics—to show grouped breakdowns (for example by province or age band) without singling out any individual voter.

Cookies and local storage

We may use cookies or similar storage for essential operation (including the voter session id described above), preferences, and measurement where we use it. You can control cookies through your browser settings; blocking cookies that carry the voter id may prevent us from remembering that you already voted, or may block voting until a new id can be set.

Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with service providers who host or secure the platform under strict terms, or when required by law. Aggregated or de-identified statistics may be shown publicly on the site (for example total votes and percentage breakdowns).

Retention

We keep vote and technical records only as long as needed for analytics, audits, and legal compliance. When data is no longer required, we delete or anonymise it in line with our internal schedules and applicable law.

Your choices

You can skip optional demographic questions, stop using the site, or clear cookies from your browser. For privacy questions or requests (including access or deletion where applicable), contact us using the details in the footer.

Children

ZedScore is not directed at children under the age where parental consent is required for data processing in your country. If you believe we have collected information from a child inappropriately, please contact us so we can remove it.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do; continued use of the site after changes means you accept the revised policy.
